Irrigation jars
Ollas

Jars in red Catalan earthenware
I make irrigation jars from red earthenware that comes from Catalonia. Also called “oyas” (a registered trademark) or “ollas”, they water plants at the roots and save water.
I make jars in different sizes, from 0.5 L to 10 L, fired at 970 °C. They can be used in open ground, in tubs or in window boxes.
How does it work?
- BuryBury the jar next to the plant.
- FillFill it with water and put the lid on.
- SeepThe porous walls of the jar release the water.
Root irrigation reduces evaporation and wastes less water. You can save up to 70% of the water used by other watering systems: you water less, and less often.
